Urrea qualifies for next month's U.S. Girl's Junior Amateur
PHOENIX, N.Y. – Ariana Urrea clinched a spot in the 77th U.S. Girl’s Junior Amateur Championship on Monday. The Purdue-commit posted a score of 70, two-under par, at Beaver Meadows Golf Club.
Urrea got off to a solid start parring nine of the first 10 holes and a birdie the par-five 7th. The course especially played tough with rain falling for all 18 holes.
“I live in Florida, so it's pretty common for me to play in the rain,” Urrea said. “I had a little bit of an advantage with that.”

She was the lone player to finish under par. During an up-and-down back-nine, Urrea had three birdies from holes 13-17, including two on par-3s. Her four total birdies were tied for the most in the field with three players making two.
“I'm not a long hitter, and the par-3s are the shortest holes we have out here so, I just really took advantage.”
Urrea was born in Peru, and says she hopes to do her country proud next month in North Carolina.
Evelyn Ma, a Canadian, finished in second and claimed the first alternate spot. She shot even par, 72, with a back-nine of 34. Ma was tied for second with through 16 but birdied the final two holes. Kaprice Park, from Canada, claimed the second alternate spot shooting 75, three-over. She bounced back after a 39 on the out to go even on the in.
The course was played at 6214 yards and a par of 72.
Old Chatham Golf Club in North Carolina will play host to this year’s U.S. Girls Amateur from July 13-18.
