During a stroke-lay competition, a player's ball comes to rest in the fairway. There is scattered snow around the ball. Without moving their ball, the player removes the snow around the ball with their hand before making a stroke.

B: Two-Stroke Penalty

Correct Answer

C: No penalty

As noted in Rule 15.1(A), snow and natural ice are considered either loose impediments or, when on the ground, temporary water, at the player's option. Under Rule 15.1(A): Without penalty, a player may remove a loose impediment anywhere on or off the golf course, and may do so in any way.
